Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most about SyncoTab. And if you'd rather see for yourself, create a free account and open SyncoTab.
Getting started
Do I need an account to use SyncoTab?
Yes, a free account. It takes a minute and keeps your plan, your settings and your cloud project with you on any computer. Your .syncotab files stay on your computer, too.
Which tab formats can I open?
Guitar Pro (gp3 to gp8 and gpx), MusicXML, alphaTex and MIDI. When you open a MIDI file, you choose which tracks become tablature.
What audio can I use?
mp3, ogg, wav, m4a, flac or opus files. If you don't load any audio, the tab plays through the synthesizer. Using YouTube videos as the audio is planned for a future version.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in current Android and iOS browsers. Syncing and marking zones is easier on a computer or tablet; for practicing with a project that's already set up, a phone works fine.
Syncing and practice
How does the tab get synced with the recording?
You mark where bar 1 starts in the audio. If the recording changes tempo, you add anchors on other bars or use tap mode, tapping in time as you listen. SyncoTab spreads the timing between anchors.
What are zones and markers?
Zones are named, color-coded sections of the song, such as Intro, Chorus or Solo I, that you can loop. Markers are specific spots you can jump to instantly.
The Free plan allows 2 zones and 5 markers per song; Pro, as many as you want.
If I slow it down, does the pitch change?
No. You can practice at half speed and the recording still plays in the same key.
What happens to my audio? Is it uploaded anywhere?
The audio plays in your browser. It only leaves your computer if you save a project with embedded audio to the cloud.
Files and account
What is a .syncotab file?
It's a SyncoTab project: it stores the score (plus your edited version, if any), a reference to the audio or the audio itself embedded, the zones, the markers and the sync. Open it another day or on another computer and you'll find it just as you left it.
Can I install SyncoTab as an app?
Yes. In Chrome or Edge, use the browser's install option. On desktop, .syncotab files open straight in SyncoTab with a double-click, and the app keeps working offline with the files on your computer.
How many projects can I save in the cloud?
Free includes 1 cloud project to try it, up to 100 MB. Pro has no limit on the number of projects, up to 300 MB each. On your computer you can save as many .syncotab files as you like on any plan.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile › Delete account. Your account and the projects saved in the cloud are deleted; the .syncotab files on your computer are left untouched.
Pro plan
How do I get Pro?
Payments aren't available yet. In the meantime, the SyncoTab administrator can enable Pro on your account. Once you can pay on the website, you'll see it on the Pricing page.
